SMOOTHER ROADS AHEAD! (September 2025)
Rethink Maguire is working to remove and replace Maguire Street between Young Street and Broad Street.
Crews will work south to north in the following phases:
Phase 1: Broad Street to Culton Street
Phase 2: Culton Street to Gay Street
Phase 3: Gay Street to North Street
Phase 4: Emerson Street to Furmeson Street
Phase 5: Final continuous top paving from Broad Street to Furmeson Street
Phase 6: Install asphalt on Maguire Street between North Street and Emerson Street, and nearby side streets
Phase 7: Pavement striping and roadway signage
Phase 1 begins Monday, September 15, 2025. To facilitate this work, Maguire Street between Broad Street and Culton Street will close for 1-2 weeks, weather and unforeseen circumstances permitting.
Businesses are open and accessible during construction!
Access to businesses will be maintained on nearby side streets.
While crews are working, the east/west intersection of Maguire Street and Grover Street will remain open during peak travel hours.
The map below illustrates access around the closure.
Thanks for your patience as we work to #RethinkMaguire!
UTILITY UPGRADES BEGIN (October 2024)
Rethink Maguire is about more than the roadway. This project is also working to improve underground utilities we use every day. Gas, water and sanitary sewer upgrades are beginning this month. Crews will start on Maguire near the southern end of the project boundaries (Broad Street) and work their way north toward Furmeson Street.
PRE-CONSTRUCTION OPEN HOUSE (May 2024)
The City of Warrensburg hosted an open house to discuss the Rethink Maguire project and gather public input on Thursday, May 23 at the Warrensburg Community Center (445 E. Gay St., Warrensburg, MO 64093). The public was welcome to stop by anytime between 5 and 7 p.m. to view design plans for the corridor, learn about the construction schedule, meet the contractor and speak with project staff. No formal presentation was made.
For those unable to attend on May 23, meeting materials are below. The information shared online is the same information the project team presented at the public meeting.

CONTRACTOR SELECTED (February 2024)
On Monday, February 26, the Warrensburg City Council approved a contract for Capital Paving & Construction to complete the Maguire Street corridor improvements from Young Street to Broad Street for the Rethink Maguire project. The initial phase of improvements will focus on addressing access management throughout the corridor and modernizing traffic signals to improve safety and traffic flow, while enhancing the aesthetics through establishing consistent green space, widening sidewalks, reducing visual clutter and creating opportunities for landscaping.
The improvements are informed by a community engagement process that resulted in more than 1,000 comments from businesses, property owners, residents and stakeholders.
What’s next?
This spring the project team will be completing the final design for the Maguire Street corridor improvements (Young Street to Broad Street). As part of that process, the team will be talking to property owners about how they are accessing Maguire and what they can expect as the project gets closer to construction.
Before construction starts there will be a community open house to show final plans, answer questions, and share how the project team will communicate with corridor stakeholders during construction. Sign up here to receive the latest project updates via e-mail.
PUBLIC INPUT SUMMARY (January 2023)
As part of Rethink Maguire, the project team began gathering input in September 2023 from the Warrensburg community regarding existing conditions on the Maguire Street corridor and ideas about what the future could be. Multiple ways to participate in this process were provided, including an online survey, a booth at Burg Fest, a Visioning Workshop, and one-on-one meetings with property owners along Maguire Street.
The Phase 1 Public Input Summary document summarizes the feedback received from each of the community engagement activities. Additionally, all feedback was reviewed together to identify what the community considers overall priorities for Rethink Maguire.
